Well, as you can see from those images, it has been a wild and wonderful 25 years. It’s easy to see how this group of motivated and highly skilled people have been able to make over 25 million color TV picture tubes, not to mention design and develop the next generation of cutting edge communication technologies. We have some very special people lined up tonight to address this historic milestone here in San Diego. I’d like to say first that it is such a pleasure for me to introduce our first speaker to you. Not only is N__ I___ the President and Chief Operating Officer of Sony Corporation, the Vice Chairman of Sony Corporation of America and the Chairman of Sony Electronics, he is an excellent communicator and strategist. Throughout his career with Sony, Mr. I___ has played a key role in developing and enhancing Sony‘s renowned design and brand name image. It becomes instantly obvious that he has a global vision for Sony and for the future. For example – and while I am sure he would be the first to downplay his role -- Sony’s leading position in the compact disk market has a lot to do with Mr. Idei’s foresight and leadership. Intro. to C. Y___

I don’t know if you know this or not, but at the age of 13 C___ Y___ decided to rebuild the engine of the family car - armed with a wrench and a Chilton’s Motor Manual. I’m sure that after he got through with it that car ran better than it ever did before. Always an overachiever, C___ has been drawn to attack the complex with intelligence, determination and energy. While he was in college, for example, he wasn’t content to simply study Electrical Engineering and Management. He had to play ice hockey, pump gas and arrange the social calendar of his fraternity. If that wasn’t enough, he felt he needed to be more well rounded, so he minored in Art History at Wellesley. Isn’t that a woman’s college? It was just the start of what has become an illustrious career. At this time it is my pleasure to introduce to you the man whose outstanding vision, leadership and ethics have led to Sony being recognized as the most ethical marketing company in America – as well as being named one of the 100 best managed companies. You know, 25 years is a significant milestone in any company. For us, we celebrate this accomplishment and look toward a promising future. It is the beginning of a new era for the Sony Technology Center - San Diego. Currently leading the way here in San Diego is site president T___ H___. He is responsible for a new attitude - one that stresses core design and innovation – and has created a work environment to support this activity. Sony Technology Center - San Diego is ready to emerge as a world-class technology and business development center. Already many of Sony’s newest products have been introduced here in San Diego. And our new technology development is a driving force in the digital convergence of television, computers, telephone and the Internet. These accomplishments and our bright future are possible because of this man’s ability and willingness to listen to employees and then do something about it.
